FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is lipoedema the same as obesity?+

No. Lipoedema is a condition in its own right and can be mistaken for obesity or localised fat. It can coexist with excess weight, but it is not simply caused by eating more or moving less.

Does lipoedema affect the feet?+

In most cases the feet are spared, creating a visible difference between enlarged legs and relatively unaffected feet. Even so, every case needs an assessment.

Does lipoedema hurt?+

It can. Pain, tenderness to the touch, a feeling of heaviness and easy bruising are commonly described signs.

Does lymphatic drainage help with lipoedema?+

It can help ease symptoms in some people, especially when it is part of a plan that includes compression, movement, skin care and individual follow-up.

Can lipoedema be cured?+

It is currently considered a chronic condition. Care aims to ease symptoms, prevent worsening and improve function and quality of life.
